Adopt a Rescue Dog in Spain

Thinking about rescuing?

If you are looking to adopt a rescue dog in Spain, Hope for Hounds Rescue helps abandoned and unwanted hounds find safe, loving homes.

Our story began in Galicia, northern Spain, as Casa de Griffon. What started with a particular love for Griffons has grown into a wider rescue network helping Griffons, Hounds, Beagles, Podencos and other hunting dogs who have been abandoned, surrendered or found themselves in Spanish pounds.

Spanish rescue dogs looking for homes

Many of the dogs we help have previously been used for hunting. Others arrive as unwanted litters, owner surrenders, or dogs simply left behind. Despite what many have experienced, Spanish hounds can make wonderful family dogs. They are often affectionate, sociable and incredibly loyal once they have the security of a home.

We carefully assess our dogs before adoption so that we can find the right home for each individual dog.

Rescue dogs from Galicia

Our rescue work is centred in Galicia in northern Spain, where there is an ongoing need to find homes for abandoned hunting dogs.

We work with trusted people on the ground to provide our dogs with safe accommodation, veterinary treatment and preparation for adoption.

Griffon, Hound, Beagle and Podenco rescue in Spain

Hope for Hounds has particular experience with Spanish hunting breeds and crosses.

You will regularly see Griffons and Griffon crosses among our dogs: Beagles, Podencos and other hounds.

Every dog has its own history, temperament and needs, and these are taken into consideration when we match a dog with an adopter.

From Casa de Griffon to Hope for Hounds Rescue

Some people may still know us as Casa de Griffon. Casa de Griffon began in Galicia and rescued and rehomed Spanish hounds for several years. As our work expanded beyond Griffons and our network became increasingly international, we became Hope for Hounds Rescue.

The name has changed, but the purpose remains the same: rescuing dogs in Spain and finding them the homes they deserve.
