Adopt a Rescue Dog from Spain in the UK
Thinking about rescuing?
At Hope for Hounds Rescue, we help dogs in Spain find loving homes in the UK.
Many of our dogs are Griffons, hounds and hound crosses who have been abandoned, surrendered or rescued from pounds in Spain. They range from young dogs looking for their first real home to older hounds who have spent years waiting for the chance to become part of a family.
We work with adopters throughout the process, helping you find a dog whose personality, needs and energy levels are suited to your home and lifestyle.
Adopting a Spanish Rescue Dog in the UK
Adopting a dog from another country can seem complicated, but you won’t be doing it alone.
Hope for Hounds Rescue supports you from your initial enquiry through to your dog’s arrival in the UK and beyond.
We take time to understand your home, family, other pets, experience and lifestyle before discussing suitable dogs. Our priority is finding the right match rather than simply finding the quickest home.
Our Dogs Available for Adoption
Our dogs come from different circumstances across Spain. Some have been abandoned, some surrendered by their owners and others have found themselves in municipal pounds.
We particularly help Griffons, scent hounds and their crosses, although we will help other dogs when we can.
Every dog is assessed individually. We will tell you as much as we know about their temperament, behaviour, history and needs so you can make an informed decision.
Preparing Your Dog for Travel to the UK
Before travelling, our dogs receive the appropriate veterinary preparation and documentation required for their journey. Our normal rescue preparation includes:
- Microchip
- Rabies vaccination
- Other appropriate vaccinations
- Blood testing, including brucellosis testing
- Neutering where appropriate
- EU pet passport and necessary documentation
We arrange transport using experienced animal transporters and will explain the process and expected journey arrangements before adoption.
Support Doesn’t End When Your Dog Arrives
Adoption isn’t the end of our involvement. Every Hope for Hounds dog has full rescue backup.
Moving from Spain to a new home can be a huge change for a rescue dog. Some settle remarkably quickly, while others need time, patience and understanding. Our team remains available to support adopters after arrival and throughout the dog’s life.
Could You Adopt One of Our Dogs?
Our dogs live in all kinds of homes across the UK, and there isn’t one perfect type of adopter. What matters is finding the right home for each individual dog.
Before adoption, we’ll talk to you about your lifestyle, working arrangements, garden or outdoor space, children, existing animals and previous dog experience. For many of our hounds, we will also discuss their natural scent drive and the importance of appropriate security and lead management.
Adopt a Griffon or Hound from Spain
Hope for Hounds has particular experience with Griffons and European hunting hounds.
These dogs are often overlooked in Spain but can make wonderful companions. Many are affectionate, sociable and deeply attached to their families.
If you’ve discovered breeds such as the Griffon Nivernais, Griffon Bleu de Gascogne, Grand or Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen, Basset Fauve de Bretagne or other European hounds, you may find exactly the character you’re looking for among our dogs.
