This is one of those posts I really wish I didn’t have to write. Eddie was one of our dogs. One of the lucky ones who left Spain and went on to be completely and utterly adored.
Last Friday, at only five years old, Eddie died very suddenly after struggling with his back legs for just a few days. He was diagnosed with spinal cancer, and his family had to say goodbye to their beautiful boy far, far too soon.
Angela Harper describes Eddie as bringing “sunshine” and a healing energy into their lives. Their wee bestie. Looking at this photo, I think you can see exactly what she means. But in the middle of their own heartbreak, Angela and Eddie’s family have done something incredibly kind.
To remember Eddie, Angela is walking every day for a month and raising money for Hope for Hounds, so that other dogs back here in Spain can have the same chance Eddie had — to leave their old lives behind and find a family who loves them this much. She has already raised £240 of her £300 target.
When we rescue a dog, this is what we hope for. We can get them out of the pound, get them safe, get them well and help them on their way. But ultimately, what we want is for them to become someone’s dog. Someone’s best friend. Someone who cannot imagine their home without them. Eddie found that. Five years was nowhere near long enough, but what a loved little dog he was.
Thank you, Angela, for doing this in Eddie’s memory, and thank you for giving one of our boys such a wonderful life.
If anyone would like to support Angela’s walk, or simply donate a few pounds in Eddie’s memory, every penny will go toward helping the next hound who needs us. And if you can’t donate, please share his story.

Run free, beautiful Eddie. You were very, very loved.
